Effect of Modified Illite on Cd Immobilization and Fertility Enhancement of Acidic Soils

Cadmium pollution in the soil induces significant hazards to agricultural growth and public health. Therefore, new routes are needed develop low-cost amendments that can effectively stabilize cadmium improve fertility. This study introduces modified illite (MIT) with enhanced ability heavy metal Cd through mixing of calcium carbonate, silicate sulfate specific proportions by using well-known calcination-hydrothermal process. The characterization findings revealed MIT is predominantly composed gehlenite akermanite, greatly improved surface area, pore structure cation exchange capacity. main purpose present unravel a plausible mechanism on how Cd(II) investigate effect fertility contaminated soil. Experiments remediation has more profound stabilizing impact compared natural illite, resulting 22.84% reduction acid-soluble when was dosed at 0.5%. potential immobilization involves ionic Cd2+ exchangeable Ca2+ Mg2+. In addition, hydrolysis products akermanite prone form precipitates free Cd, leading pH increment. pot experiments showed significantly reduces content improves water spinach organs. Meanwhile, enhancement indicators rhizosphere further proved increases nutrient content, promotes microorganism growth.
